A native Texan, Dr. York earned his undergraduate degree from
Baylor University. His medical training began with four years at the original Texas medical school, the University of Texas
Medical Branch in Galveston. He then completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma
in Tulsa, and became Board-Certified in Internal Medicine.
He returned to the University of Texas Medical Branch,
becoming the first physician to complete a combined fellowship in Allergy & Immunology, and Rheumatology.
While a
fellow, Dr. York’s research grant proposals for the UT Medical Branch earned more research dollars than any fellow had ever
earned before. This funding of Dr. York’s ideas allowed him to serve as the Principal Investigator on several patient studies
exploring many aspects of autoimmune and allergic disorders.
While still in training himself, he aspired to improve
the training of allergists and became active at the national level. He was elected by fellows in training across the country
to represent them on the national Board of Regents of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. During his
term Dr. York was privileged to see his ideas for improvement become reality.
Having pursued an exceptionally broad
and active course of training in Internal Medicine, Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology, Dr. York decided to concentrate
his professional career on the treatment of patients with allergies and asthma. He completed his 14 years of training by
becoming Board Certified as a Specialist in the treatment of both adults and children with allergies, asthma, and immunological
disorders.
He entered private practice in Houston and became a partner in a well-respected allergy clinic there, where
he practiced for several years. After traveling to West Texas several times a year with his wife, Deborah, to enjoy the outdoors
of Big Bend, Fort Davis, and the Guadalupe Mountains, they eventually decided to move permanently to El Paso, Deborah’s home
town.
Dr. York’s mission in developing the York Allergy Clinic here in El Paso has been to continue his career-long
commitment, offering the highest level of expert care to patients suffering from allergies and asthma.
He also maintains
strong relationships with Pulmonologists (physicians who specialize in treating asthma in the hospital setting) and with Internal
Medicine and Family Practice physicians, who treat non-allergic conditions such as high blood pressure. Should you need help
beyond the scope of treatment offered by the York Allergy Clinic, Dr. York will refer you to one of these highly qualified
specialists.
